Where does your salmon come from?

At the Harris & Lewis Smokehouse, we use only the finest quality, Scottish Atlantic Salmon from Bakkafrost Scotland raised responsibly in the West Coast of Scotland and Hebrides.

How is your smoked salmon made?

We use only the finest Scottish Salmon from Bakkafrost Scotland and smoke all our Scottish Salmon at our Harris & Lewis Smokehouse in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis.  Our Artisan Smokers hand cure only fresh Scottish Salmon before gently smoking each salmon ‘side’ in a traditional pebble-lined kiln, using Scotch whisky cask chippings to infuse them with a rich flavour, providing a unique taste of the Hebridean islands.

How do you ensure the quality, traceability and sustainability of your products?

Bakkafrost Scotland is engaged in all stages of the supply chain from freshwater and marine farming to processing, smoking and selling our Scottish Salmon.

We are dedicated to producing the finest quality Scottish Salmon sustainably with full traceability, supply chain integrity and Scottish Provenance guaranteed. This is ensured by our comprehensive suite of accreditations. We are GLOBALG.A.P. accredited and have been awarded a four-star Best Aquaculture Practice (BAP) for our Freshwater, Marine and Processing sites and for sourcing feed from BAP-certified suppliers. We adhere to the independently audited Code of Good Practice for Scottish Finfish Aquaculture, which covers all aspects of farm production. Our processing and smoking facilities are BRC AA accredited for food safety, processing and supply chain management. The Scottish provenance of our salmon is guaranteed through the UK PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) scheme. In addition, all of our smoked products are Kosher certified, and both our Native Hebridean Smoked Scottish Salmon and Harris & Lewis Smoked Scottish Salmon have been awarded Great Taste Awards.

How long do your smoked products keep and can I freeze them?

Our Smoked Scottish Salmon should be stored in a refrigerator at 0 to 4°C. Once opened consume within 3 days. Do not exceed the Use by Date printed on the back of pack. If freezing, do so on day of receipt and use within 1 month.

What delivery methods do you use and how quickly will I receive my order?

Due to the perishable nature of our goods and the location of our smokehouse, we despatch orders weekly every Tuesday. During busy periods or bank holidays, we may alter despatch days to ensure goods are delivered the same working week. All orders to the UK are delivered using Royal Mail 24 and your order should be delivered within 1-2 days from despatch.  For larger orders, we may use a different delivery agent and service – please contact us on the details at the bottom of the page to discuss how we can help you. We also offer a free Click and Collect service.

How much do you charge for delivery?

Delivery is £6.00 per delivery address. Free standard delivery is available on orders over £70.00 (after any coupons have been applied). We also offer a free Click and Collect service.

How will I know when my order has been shipped?

You will receive an order confirmation email once your order has been received and an order dispatch confirmation email as soon as your order has been shipped.

What packaging do you send your products in?

As all of our products are classed as perishable, we high quality packaging materials with insulation and ice/gel packs to ensure they arrive in perfect condition. Most orders are sent out in WoolCool packaging with ice packs, and both the wool liner and ice packs are reusable. For larger orders we normally use polystyrene boxes with gel packs.

Will I be able to track my order?

We do not currently offer tracking, however we are looking to add this feature in the future.

Will I need to sign for my delivery?

No, you will not be required to sign for the delivery unless you request this. If you need to provide any delivery instructions please enter them into the ‘order notes’ box on the checkout page.  As it is a perishable product, if you are not going to be home please leave instructions of a cool, shaded place to leave your delivery.

I selected Click and Collect – where and when do I collect my order?

We offer a free Click and Collect service from our Harris & Lewis Smokehouse in Stornoway. If you have selected this option, our friendly team will be in touch with you via phone or email to arrange collection. Our address is Harris & Lewis Smokehouse, Sandwick Road, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, Scotland, HS1 2SL, United Kingdom. Upon arrival, follow the signage and use the parking to the rear of the building.

Can I cancel my order?

Our products are perishable and we aim to despatch every Tuesday. If there are any changes to your order please let us know as soon as possible by emailing  sales@harrisandlewis.co.uk referencing your order number. Please note our mailbox is only managed between 8 am – 4 pm, Monday – Friday. For further details, please refer to section 4 of our Terms and Conditions.

How do I know my credit card and personal details are secure?

When your order is placed on the Harris & Lewis Smokehouse website, the debit/credit card payment is handled entirely by secure payment provider Square. All transactions are encrypted using SSL encryption, indicated by the padlock which appears in your browser so you can feel safe and secure.

All personal details are securely stored and used only for ordering purposes in line with our privacy policy.

Which credit cards do you accept?

We accept the following credit cards: MasterCard, Visa, Maestro, Diners, JCB, Laser and Solo.

Can I post a cheque?

We can only accept card payments.

Can I place an order over the phone?

We can only accept orders through our website.
